Prof. Jonathan Granot is an astrophysicist. He works mainly in the area of high-energy astrophysics, which addresses some of the most extreme physical conditions in nature, such as huge densities, magnetic fields and particle energies, strong gravity and relativistic bulk motions. His research focuses on gamma-ray bursts, magnetars, relativistic fluid dynamics and MHD, pulsar wind nebulae, dynamics and structure of relativistic jets, polarization, structure of blast waves, high-energy neutrinos, astrophysical tests of Lorentz invariance and gravitational lensing.

After obtaining a PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2001), he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Science in Princeton (2001-2004), a research associate at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford (2004-2007) and a reader (associate prof.) at the University of Hertfordshire (2007-2012) before joining the Open University of Israel (2012-present) where he is a full Professor (2006) and served as the head of physics (2017-2024), head of the M.Sc. program in astrophysics (2023-2025) and head of the astrophysics research center (ARCO; 2023-2024). He has been an adjunct research Prof. at GWU since 2017.
